EEDA confirms continued commitment to Bridge of Reeds

23 Aug 06

Responding to recent news that the ‘Bridge of Reeds’ project did not make the cut for funding from the Big Lottery’s Living Landmarks, the East of England Development Agency remains committed to helping the team deliver this exciting project.

The Bridge of Reeds project was one of four winners in EEDA’s landmark east international ideas competition.   It is led by the National Trust in partnership with Greater Cambridge Partnership, Sustrans and Marshall of Cambridge.

The Bridge will provide new access for walkers, cyclists and riders to thousands of acres of countryside, a stones throw from Cambridge.  The innovative design will ensure that the Bridge is a distinctive landmark for the region positioned across the A14.

Marcie Bell of EEDA said:

“Obviously it was disappointing news from the Big Lottery but the team is as enthusiastic and determined as ever to deliver the project.  As an environmental project focused on providing new access to green space, it has enormous potential.  Anything of this scope is a challenge to deliver but the team’s fundraising efforts continue and EEDA remains committed to supporting them.”
